What do people want to read in this blog?

If I were reading a blog I would want to know the persons true authentic thoughts.nthings that they might not say on YouTube. Things meant only for intelligent people who not only watch videos but read as well ;). I might like to know what they think of the raw food world, the cast of characters in it. Does my favorite raw food educator cheat ever? If so what do they eat when they cheat? What is their love life like? What makes them happy? What to do on those days you just plain old mess up? How does it really feel to be raw in a cooked world? What sacrifices need to be made? Socially especially. What on earth can raw foodists do for fun in a world so centered around food and drink? I think that I can answer most of these. Except maybe the one about the cast of characters. Not Nice to gossip after all ;).
I do find it interesting though how many of them change their tunes. Raw vegan to meat eating? Gosh that could make things so confusing.
So. Things i look for in someone I follow...are they walking their talk? When I hear them speak, does what they say ring true? Does the word authenticity come to mind? And their energy, do I like it?
So on that note with much to think about and many topics to cover in the future.ninleavenyounwithnone true thing, Get Your Greens On!

  1. Wow Dara. Talk about authenticity!!!! I want to know the answers to ALL above if you are willing to share. I have been trying to eat raw for almost a year and find it very hard...most friends and family think I am insane. I will eat raw for short time then binge on cooked food for a while then back to raw and so on. I am working on a green smoothie a day no matter on raw or cooked for the day. Keep doing what you are doing. You are such an inspiration and LIGHT...and my motivation. In joy, Carina

  2. I think people binge on other foods because their body is still trying to detoxify & adjust. Keep at it, it gets easier!

I've been doing mostly raw for a few years now. I am 100% in the summer. In the winter I eat some cooked winter veggies (squash, asparagus, yam, eggplant) I like them better cooked & feel better. Sometimes, not too often I eat rice.

It would be nice to hear what raw food people 'cheat' on. I do eat some cheese sometimes. I bet others do too. That's about it, I think anything else would put my body into shock.

Another thing is the social aspect, we all need ways to cope with that. For me, I've stopped caring where I drag my raw food out of my ppurse -- restaurant, grocery store. At a company formal Christmas party I pulled an avocado out of my purse to add to the only raw bits of salad stuff I could find at their buffet! I think if we all support each other with the social aspects it might be easier!

    Thanks Dara!

    2. I'm new to the whole "vegan" world. I will say that it is sad how emotional and worked up people get. Congrats on being a non-cheating vegan for 8 years. That is great. Guess what, before that, you were what? Still human? At least she is trying and doing. Who knows what kind of cheese she has cheated with. It is not our place to judge. Animals do have rights, yes. And so does the grass, the people in the world and even bugs. But, do people go out of their way and protect these things too? Do they rip into and make others feel down or slam them for not fitting in their exact bubble and exact cookie cutter way of life? No. Cassie, I think it is great that you are doing all you can now... but you don't need to rip into someone else. Unless you've never made a single error your entire life, it is pretty "selfish" that you would throw your weight around on here.

  3. Dara, you are so inspiring because you are so authentic! We appreciate your candor, humor, and mistakes that you do share with us on your videos. I wouldn't be the same without your videos, so am excited that you might also share in printed form ~Smile.... I so enjoyed meeting you in Stephenville this past summer! Please keep it raw and real, and if you cheat just let us know though we'll all know that we all feel best at staying mostly raw! Soon it will be summer again and we all can enjoy more fresh if we haven't had the abundance of fresh that you have available to you in your area. Glad you are going to share about sprouting! Don't forget you can grow many greens pretty far north in pots during the winter! Then you have the best greens for juicing and smoothies!

  4. Here's another question I can't find a definite answer to. Can I freeze my greens? I live 45 mins from the nearest grocery store that carries kale and other goodies. All I can get at home is large leaf lettuce, spinach (in a bag... yuck), and cabbage. So when I go to "town" as we call it, it would be nice to buy in bulk and freeze when I get good deals. I am worried though that I may loose some nutrition in the freezing. What can I freeze and what should I not? I am on a serious budget so I can't afford to ruin any amount of groceries. Please let me know what to do. I have really just loved your videos and blog. You have helped me re-enter my raw lifestyle! Thanks!

    1. You can freeze your greens for smoothies but not for salads. I do the same thing. I learned it from greensmoothiegirl.com with Robyn Openshaw.
And to Dara, Your vids are awesome and I am glad you have put up this blog. I can't wait to find out the answers to your questions...

    2. Also to keep your greens fresh longer in the refrigerator, trim the bottoms of the greens, kale, collards etc, like you would a bouquet of flowers. Place in the fridge in a jar with the bottoms in water (like flowers in a vase) cover the top with a "green" bag or regular plastic produce bag. I find they will last about twice as long stored this way. Sometimes the whole top shelf of my fridge is moved down and stuffed with "vases" of cilantro, parsley, kale, collards & chard! People are like, "What the hey?!" when they open my fridge.

    3. I ended up getting a big tub & doing the same thing, putting all the greens upright in it with water in the bottom & then some plastic on top, I put it in a cool entry hall & my greens last a couple weeks.

  5. Hi Dara
I really like your site and you have turned me on to raw foods, which I now thoroughly enjoy. Your presentation & enthusiasm makes it very enticing to embrace a raw foods diet. I have learned so much from you in the past few months and it has motivated me to pursue training in raw food preparation. Despite being a vegan for many years, a runner, cyclist and a gym rat, I was diagnosed with hereditary advanced heart disease. My condition was misdiagnosed and I almost died.

I follow the APOE Gene diet, (by Pamela McDonald), this consists of a vegan non processed diet, exercise and spirituality. I had been diagnosed with a pre-cancerous condition several years ago. It recently exacerbated and last week I went to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Hospital (in NYC), for treatment. My physician proceeded to do a biopsy and found that there was not even a trace of cancer cells. I attribute this to my raw diet, which has given me vitality and I now feel much healthier.

I want to thank you for directing me to this path. Your videos are so inspirational and enjoyable. Your presentation of raw food is non-threatening and comprehensive. Your knowledge, personality and beauty further contributes to enticing people to pursue a raw food diet.

  7. I would so much love to read about all of that!! I've been following your youtube for years and I've always been curious about all those questions! You are such a lovely soul! I'd feel so lucky to actually be able to read those things from you, as I absolutely adore to read people's journals! (if they are public of course! lol :) )

  8. I sometimes wonder if all these Youtube personalities are like really so into this lifestyle 100% all the time "off camera"... I find it really unlikely that you can a) have a full time job b) eat only 100% RAW c) have a family d) get it all done every day without cheating and/or being rich or have lots of help.
